Working with Firefighter ID's

Previous  Home  Next

GRC-SAC-EAM (Emergency Access Management) also known as Firefighter ID’s in SAP refers to an emergency access to perform an activity. This is done through firefighter (Virsa) ID’s that has elevated and very specific security rights.

As per SAP Note 1378276, SAP does not support mass transaction activities using firefighter application. Here's some information from this note (Please refer to. OSS note mentioned below for complete details)

Symptom

Customer wants to execute mass transaction activities such as the Data

Conversion utility and mass Master data upload via the Firefighter application.

The Firefighter product does not support this mass transaction use case.

Other Terms

/VIRSA/VFAT, /VIRSA/ZVFATBAK, Superuser Privilege Management, Firefighter, Mass

Transaction, Log Collector, Log Report, Firefighter Performance, Emergency

Access Mangement, EAM10.0 , EAM10.1, GRAC_SPM, GRAC_EAM, /GRCPI/GRIA_EAM

Reason and Prerequisites

The large amount of data associated with mass transaction/maintenance may cause

the log collector job to run beyond the next scheduled job start. This may cause

data inconsistency and high system resource consumption. This may also result in

a negative performance impact on both the Firefighter application and other

applications running on the same server. Hence, SAP doesn't support this use

case through the Firefighter application.

With this background information, we recommend to avoid using firefighter application for such use cases, however if you still desire to use Process Runner, kindly write to us at support@innowera.com with your requirement and corresponding use case and we will suggest best practices.
